Found You

Written & Illustrated by Devon Holzwarth

Little Bird is on a mission: to help lonely children make friends. One day she spots Sami, a little boy in a new country, who’s always playing on his own. With Little Bird’s help, Sami discovers that the world is full of friends, if only you know where to look.

With rich, magical illustrations and a gently humorous story, Devon Holzwarth’s debut picture book will strike a chord with shy children everywhere.

Waterstones Children's Book Prize Nominee for Illustrated Books (2021)

With its gorgeous colour palette and superbly expressive scenes which show much more than is said in her text, Devon Holzwarth’s debut picture book is one that’s certain to foster empathy and understanding, showing how important it is to offer a welcoming environment to newcomers. It can all begin with holding out a hand (or wing) in friendship.

When Sami moves to a new country, he is rather shy and keeps to himself. But one day in the park, a little bird (who looks after lost children) makes it her mission to help Sami through the guise of asking him to help her find her friends. In their search Sami encounters people in the community whom he has shied away from and is greeted with kindness, and gains confidence in his new surroundings and ability to make friends. Found You is a really lovely little book for EYFS and Year 1 with beautiful colour pencil drawings. It would be useful for perhaps helping a new class get to know each other, talking about how to make friends and make others feel included, or with a new student to help them build confidence in a new school.
